Breast Augmentation
Breast Augmentation, technically known as augmentation mammoplasty, is a surgical procedure to enhance the body contour of a woman who feels her breast size is too small, or to correct a reduction in breast volume after pregnancy. By inserting an implant behind each breast, we are able to increase a woman’s bustline by one or more cup sizes. Some women may have sagging of the breasts and may desire a more perky lift. In these cases, a better result may be achieved by performing a procedure to lift the breasts.
Dr. Bigelow performs breast augmentation by several different approaches. She can place the implants submuscular, subglandular, or subfascial with the incision under the breast, through the nipple, or through the axilla (armpit). She uses both saline and silicone implants. The procedure is done in the office surgical suite with twilight IV sedation and local anesthesia. You will go home the same day after your surgery. Dr. Bigelow will see you on the following day. Most patients return to work in to 5 to 7days, although heavy lifting should be avoided for 2-3 weeks.
